Naming organic compounds is extremely important and can be a challenge to any chemist at any level because you or someone in another part of the world should be able to write a structure from a name. For simple molecules, the nomenclature system worked out by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemists (IUPAC) works well. For complex molecules, the IUPAC names are so long that no one in their right mind would use them. In other words, the name must be unique to the structure of the compound so that anyone can identify the structure that the name refers to.
There are 110 flip cards that deal with naming of organic compounds.
You can also search for a particular compound and learn its naming!
